The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats opened American Southwest Conference play Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Miss. against the Blazers of Belhaven University.
Two Belhaven first-half goals were too much for the Cat's comeback, losing 2-1 in their first conference action.Â
The Blazers struck first in the 27th minute after a mistake by Cat keeper
Haley Clark. Clark did not secure Cat Petro's shot, spilling the ball for Erica Rempel to tap in just inside the six-yard box.Â
Rempel would add to the lead in the 41st minute after a quick counter-attack. Gaining possession of the ball after a turn-over around mid-field, Alex Trammel dribbled down the field finding Rempel on LC's left side, taking a touch, blasting her shot off Clark's fingers and post for her second goal.Â
LC was unable to truly test the Blazer keeper until the 82nd minute after
Molly Edelman shot from around 30 yards beat Georgia Jordan at her near post. The shot was too much for Jordan, getting to the shot but could not keep it out.Â
The Ladies had life but could not tie the game, Edelman's shot was LC's last and the Blazers were able to close out the game with a 2-1 scoreline.Â
UT-Dallas and Howard Payne University travel to Pineville Thursday and Saturday for a 5 and 1 p.m. ASC matchup at Wildcat Stadium. For more on the Lady Wildcats follow them on Facebook under Louisiana College Women's Soccer and Twitter at LC_WSOC.
