It was another banner meet for the Louisiana College men's and women's track & field teams this year at the American Southwest Conference championships held at McMurry University over the weekend. In the programs second year of existence they have seen multiple event champions, adding another to the list this year as
Gracie Lacroix became the first women's individual conference champion in any sport at Louisiana College.
Despite unfavorable wind conditions for the javelin event, LC freshman
Gracie Lacroix was able to turn in the longest mark of the event, sticking a 109'-6" javelin in the ground for the top spot in the competitive ASC event. She landed the final throw in her final attempt after leading the competition from the beginning and being passed on the competitors last throw. The distance was her third best throw of the season, nine feet shy of her school record mark set at McNeese State University just a few weeks ago. The Jena native joins James Willingham as the Wildcats with track & field conference titles, Lacroix becoming the first women's champion.
In the women's track events there were also two more standout, podium finishes for the Wildcats in the championship races. Hurdle specialist
Nora Day took home the runner-up title in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.77 seconds, a new personal best and LC record. Her time was just 2/100ths off the top spot and the Wildcats highest finish in an ASC track event. In the longer 400 meter distance,
MySherie Johnson also improved on her best time and set a new school record with a time of 1:00.75, finishing third in the event.
The Wildcat men also had a pair of podium finishes on day two of competition in the high jump and javelin.
Nathan Gautreaux set a new personal best in the high jump with a mark of 6'-6.0", equaling the mark of the winner from McMurry but claiming the second spot because of the number of attempts required to clear. In the men's javelin event it was
LaRyan Jones that took home the third place finish with a distance of 150'-9", also a new personal best throw. The LC men also had two other top 10 with Jonathan Franklin taking eighth in the pole vault and
Devyn Allen seventh in the discus, setting a new personal best and school record in the process with a toss of 132'-2".
