Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | LC Sports Information - Brad Welborn

Wildcats Make It Six in a Row

With their 84-47 dominating win on Thursday night the Louisiana College men's basketball team won their sixth game in a row and secured the best start to a season since joining the NCAA in the year 2000. In a complete team effort where 13 players contributed to the scoring and suffocating defense the Wildcats had little trouble in their first action in over a week's time. LC will take on the defending American Southwest Conference champion Sul Ross State University on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats showed no signs of rust on Thursday night after taking a week off from games for final exams. An HPU free throw started the scoring a minute into the game and would be the only lead the Jackets would have on the night. The ensuing 20-3 LC run capped off with a pair of three's from Jacquez Coleman and Kae'ron Baker put the Wildcats up 20-4 six minutes later. The lead would only go back to single digits one more time in the game after a 10-0 HPU run at the eight minute mark of the first half.

The Wildcats ended the first on a 11-2 stretch that put them comfortably in the lead headed into the break at 39-24. It was the play of freshman K.D. Wallace that separated LC from the Jackets during the final five minutes as the Ouachita native scored 10 of his 11 total points in the game during the run, including converting on two separate and-1 chances.

The 15-point lead quickly turned into 20 as the Wildcats continued their hot stretch in the second going up 51-29 in the first three minutes of the half. The suffocating LC defense forced the Jackets into tough shots all night long and gave the Wildcats plenty of fast break opportunities, that they would take full advantage of in route to 20 fast break point and 22 points off turnovers.

With the game well in hand the final daggers came during a one-minute span with four minutes left in the game. During that minute of play Coleman knocked down two killer three's with Jase Miguez finding one on an open look putting the game officially out of reach.

The Wildcats only had three players reach double figures on the night, with 13 players on the 15-man roster contributing in the scoring column. LC got 47 bench points in the game and inside play of Devon Washington, Trey Ames, and Wallace accounted for 36 points in the paint.

The Wildcats take on their toughest opponent of the young season on Saturday afternoon at Sul Ross State. The game will be played in Odessa, Texas with a 3 p.m. tip-off.
