Cru Keep Rolling Passed Wildcats

Needing perfection on both sides of the ball to off the upset of #2 ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Louisiana College football played one quarter of near flawless football on Saturday afternoon. Seven turnovers in the next three however snowballed the game to the 80-7 final score line at Crusader Stadium. The Wildcats return home for their final game of the season next week as they host Howard Payne University.

The Wildcat defense came to play early against the Cru, forcing two punts on their first two drives, but were unable to muster anything offensively. On the third LC drive of the game the first of the seven Wildcat turnovers cost the orange and blue. An interception deep in their own end gave the ball to UMHB at the LC 20-yard line, where they would take the lead three plays later.

After forcing a third Wildcat punt at the end of the first quarter, into the gusting Texas wind, the Cru got the ball in plus territory again and began their onslaught. Three touchdowns in the span of 4:55 of the quarter gave the Cru a 28-0 lead and they would not look back from there. The Cru would score touchdowns on their next five drives before being held off the board by two good plays from Terrence Garnett Jr and Dillon Juneau near the end of the half, sending the game to the break at 42-0.

Not much would change in the second half as the Cru got the ball eight total times, punting once, and scoring five more touchdowns and adding a 44-yard field goal to reach 80 points for the third time this season overall and second in a row. The Cru scored two defensive and one special teams touchdowns in the game and a total of 42 points off of Wildcat turnovers.

The Wildcat offense showed glimpses of encouragement, moving the ball with relative consistency on the ground along with some quality catches from sophomore Zion Williams for key first downs. LC's only scoring drive of the game came in the fourth quarter with Landon Lalonde at the helm. The freshman from Cecillia found Drake Battaglia for 44 total yards on two catches on the drive to move the ball down inside the Cru four-yard line. Freshman Markaylin Milburn notched the first touchdown of his career on the next play to spoil the shutout bid.

Howard Payne will make the trip to Pineville next weekend as the Wildcats celebrate senior day with a 12 p.m. kickoff at Wildcat Stadium.
