Lady Wildcats Handle Wesleyan with Ease 102-38

After a tough and disappointing loss in their first game of the Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic, the Louisiana College women's basketball team had no trouble at all dismantling Wesleyan College on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats poured on the offense from the very beginning and finished with their largest margin of victory in five years with the 102-38 win to improve to 2-1 on the season. LC will take on Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday in Alabama for their next game.

Wesleyan scored the first basket of the game, a layup 90 second in, and that would be the only lead they would have the rest of the day. The Wildcats scored the next 12 points in a row to jump out to the double-digit lead by the mid way point of the opening quarter. Wesleyan got under the 10-point lead before the quarter ended put a layup by Kristen Breaux gave LC the 20-10 lead and Paige Hightower's jumper with 16 seconds left made it a 22-10 Wildcat advantage after the first.

The Wildcats continued to force the issue in the second and extended their lead even further, reaching a 20-point advantage on a three-ball from Morgan Blades with 90 seconds left in the half. LC went to the break up 38-16 behind a 43 percent shooting performance taking advantage of 15 Wesleyan turnovers in the half.

As if the game wasn't already decided at the half, the Wildcats left no doubt in the third quarter outscoring Wesleyan 36-8 during the 10-minute period. A 15-0 run early in the period sealed the game for the Wildcats giving them a 58-20 lead with 4:30 left in the third quarter. By the end of the period they had stretched things to 74-24 as Chelsea Singleton laid one in with 13 second left on the clock.

The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and went 7-for-10 from behind the arc for a total of 64 second half points. Five players finished in double figures for the Wildcats for the second time this season, with two players picking up their first double-doubles at LC. Singleton finished the game with 14 points and 10 rebounds while point guard Gracie Lacroix had 10 points and 10 assists, missing a triple-double by just three rebounds.

The Wildcats return south from Virginia and will take on BSC on Tuesday night in Birmingham. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. Stay connected to Louisiana College women's basketball by following @LC_WBB on Twitter.
