Wildcats Blow By Rhodes

The Louisiana College men's basketball team carried the momentum from their Thursday win in Shreveport to a convincing 82-59 victory over Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn. The Wildcats jumped out to a big first half lead and did not look back with 12 different players scoring and better than a 40 percent shooting clip in both halves. The Wildcats will take on Rose-Hulman on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. to finish the weekend.

The good shooting of the Wildcats showed it self early with long balls from Jacquez Coleman and Denzel Austin that gave LC a quick 18-8 lead just over seven minutes into the game. Rhodes was able to whittle away at the double digit LC lead, pulling within four at one point but the final seven minutes of the half belonged entirely to the Wildcats. A pair of three-balls from Lashard Powell and a jumper from Trey Ames made the game once again double figures in less than a minute of game time. The Wildcats finished the half on an 18-6 run that was capped with their eighth three-pointer of the half by Jaylen Rhone to go to the break with a commanding 43-27 lead.

After a brief stint early in the second half where both team combined to miss 11 straight shots from the floor with LC not getting a field goal for almost seven full minutes, Kae'ron Baker finally found a jumper and reignited the Wildcat offense. Baker's bucket put LC up 55-40 with 11:24 left in the game. A 15-0 run during the final stretch sealed the game for the Wildcats giving them a 72-42 lead with just over six minutes left. Freshman Bailey Hardy scored back-to-back And-1 attempts with Jase Miguez adding a layup that pushed the Wildcats over the top.

Twelve different Wildcats scored in the game with only Powell and Jelly reaching double fiugres. LC will take on the winner of the early game from the Rhodes Tip-Off Tournament Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Rose-Hulman defeated LaGrange78-72 Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled to 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Stay connected to Louisiana College men's basketball by following @LC_MBSK on Twitter.
