Cats Draw War Hawks

The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats faced the War Hawks of McMurry Univ. Saturday afternoon in an ASC matchup at Wildcat Stadium.

The game was scoreless after 90 minutes, but multiple lightning delays caused the game to be called five minutes into the first overtime, tied at zero.

Both sides bent but did not break, controlling the ball almost evenly with fair opportunities to score.

The War Hawks had 15 shots and LC with seven, Cindy Villasana stopped three shots and Haley Clark kept out six.

LC was the first to strike, Bethel Chibesa headed a crossed ball towards goal, but Villasana quickly got to it ending the attack in the fourth minute.

The War Hawks had their best chance minutes later in the 13th minute, on their first shot, after Angelica Navarro's shot hit the crossbar then Cristen Lumbreras' follow up header traveled wide of the goal.

LC countered moments later, holding the ball well and working towards the War Hawk's goal, earning a corner in the 20th.

Playing it short, Caitlyn Scheibel shot towards goal from distance forcing Villasana to come off her line to make the save. The ball was not secured and loose in the box, Larisa Soliz fired off a shot but came off a defender for a corner. MU cleared the corner and defused the Wildcat attack.

The second half started fast for the War Hawks, using a Wildcat turnover to test Clark. Cristen Lumbreras fired from inside the box, but could not beat Clark.

McMurry opened up and shot at any chance when in front of goal.  Nine of their shots came in the second half, most were wide, but Clark was prepared and safely handled the surge of offense.

With a minute left in the game, a lightning delay was called forcing a 30-minute delay.

When play resumed, the game went into overtime, two ten minute periods were next.

The War Hawks were ready to finish the game, in the minutes played, they managed to fire off five shots, but Clark crucially kept the score level until the game ended for weather.

The Wildcats escaped the rain with a draw and a point in the conference table.

The Cats hit the road next week for the long trip to Alpine, TX, for an ASC game against the Lobos of Sul Ross State Univ. Thursday afternoon.
