Wildcats Lose Tough One to TLU

In yet another classic battle between Louisiana College and Texas Lutheran University the Wildcats self-inflicted wounds cost them their third straight victory as TLU took home the 41-36 win at Wildcat Stadium Saturday night. LC will travel to Abilene, Texas next week for a road contest with McMurry University.

The Wildcats fell behind early as their third play from scrimmage resulted in a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown by TLU's James Bell to put them ahead 7-0 just two minutes into the ball game. LC would get on the board on their next possession, though after recovering a muffed punt at the TLU 13 would have to settle for a 30-yard Curtis Sebren field goal.

The Bulldogs answered with a long touchdown pass on their next series, but another TLU miscue would lead to more LC points later in the quarter. A fumbled pitch that was recovered by Anthony Hargrave led to a 34-yard touchdown pass from Mason Jordan to Leondre James to make it a 14-9 game after a failed point after.

Down 24-9 late in the second quarter the Wildcats found the momentum and consistency they had been searching for through the first half putting together at 10-play, 67-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 10-yard pass to JoJo Robinson for the score. TLU would answer with a field goal before the half, but the Wildcats had set the table for what would be a monster third quarter.

After both teams traded drives that lost a total of eight yards to start the half, LC pulled within four on a 43-yard strike from Jordan to Zion Williams at the 11:01 mark of the period. Another 3-and-out by the LC defense led to the Wildcats first lead of the game as Robinson hauled in his second score of the night on a 41-yard bomb from Jordan up the far sideline. The teams traded scored on their next two possessions with the Wildcats regaining the momentarily lost lead on another touchdown connection from Jordan to Robinson, making the score 36-34 at the end of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs would score the eventual game-winning touchdown on their first drive of the fourth quarter, a three-yard rush by quarterback Kyle Grona. The Wildcats had two drives come up empty after that with a missed field goal and a false start penalty on fourth and short that forced them to punt. LC would get one final shot at victory however as Terrance Garnett forced a fumble which was picked up by Richard Green giving the ball back to the Wildcats at their own 47 with 1:48 left in the game.

The Wildcats quickly moved into TLU territory on a pair of completions to Drake Battaglia, but a sack and loss of eight yards stymied their momentum and the game ended with a second James Bell interception at his own 10-yard line.

The Wildcats left multiple points on the board on the night, turned the ball over three times, and went 4-of-18 on third down attempts on the night.

The Wildcats fall to 2-3 overall on the season and 2-2 in ASC play with the loss. They travel to McMurry next Saturday for a 1pm kickoff against the War Hawks.
