The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats returned to ASC play Thursday afternoon when the eighth-ranked Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons Univ. rolled into Wildcat Stadium.
Crowding the box and crossing balls in worked well for the Cowgirls, scoring ten to top the Cats.
The Cowgirls did not take long to settle in, in the fifth minute Randie Dennison tapped in a ground cross past
Haley Clark for the first goal. Rachel Bean added to the lead in the 12th minute, heading in a crossed ball.
Mackensie Moreno scored the third goal in the 22nd minute after volleying in a loose ball inside the box. To make matters worse for the Cats, in the 23rd minute the Cowgirl's lead went to four after an own goal.
In the 31st minute, Finda Kollie tapped in a blocked shot for the fifth goal in the first half.
The Cowgirl attack slowed down, and LC was able to work the ball around and create opportunities for themselves.
In the 35th minute,
Bethel Chibesa's shot was just wide off target, the only shot of the night for LC. The Cats were unable to crack HSU's back-line; the final passes were not good enough to test the keeper. The lack of offense hurt the Cats, causing more pressure on the defense.
The second half was not any better for the Cats, in the 53rd minute, Kenne Kessler's shot went under
Lexi Tate for the sixth goal. Bean scored a second in the 58th minute, breaking away from her defender for a tap in.
The Cowgirls scored three more goals, Sarah Krisa scored in the 60th minute, Kollie added a second in the 77th minute, and Taylor Bernal closed the game with the tenth in the 82nd minute.
The Score did not reflex the effort LC put in. From the first minute to the last, every Cat played hard. The game was not 90 minutes of defending. There were counterattacks and combinations; signs that showed they were not out of the game.
The task presented to them was not small, but there were learning points to take from it and improve on for the next game against McMurry Univ. Saturday afternoon. The ASC matchup kickoff is at 12 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
