The Louisiana College Wildcats hosted in-state rival Centenary College Gents Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium for a nonconference matchup.
Two overtime periods were not enough to separate the sides and finished in a 3-3 tie.Â
The game did not start like many others, LC took the lead in the fourth minute, but it was by mistake. Centenary kicked the ball out for an injury timeout and restarting play
Alexie Nava scored off
Brandon Martinez's throw-in. The goal was not to expose to happen, as a side of respect, Ali Ibrahim scored to level the game for the mistake.Â
Exchanging attacks and fouls, the Gents had a golden opportunity in front of goal with a foul less than 30 yards from goal. Â Â
Gabe Rodriguez took the free-kick and forced Micheal Brown III to save the shot, but he did not clear the ball far enough, Matthew Young tucked the loose ball in for the lead and second goal in the 42nd minute.Â
LC dominated the attack, but could not keep their shots between the posts, wasting many opportunities to level.Â
A goal in the 69th minute almost broke the Cats. The Gents worked along the left side of LC, and Dillon Rogers came 1v1 with Brown but instead of shooting he passed to Young for an empty goal tap in.Â
Down 3-1,
Leo Urumovski brought the Cats within one goal moments after the restart.
Leo Osawa played Urumovski a perfect through ball, beating the last defender, and then Patrick Riley with a rocket shot to the far post.Â
The Cats did not finish there, two minutes later the score would be tied up in the 71st minute. Â Counterattacking off a Gent's turnover, Urumovski found
Jason Rodriguez on the right side. Rodriguez did not need to take a touch instead he blasted his shot to the roof of the net giving Riley no chance.Â
Brown made three big saves to close out the 90 minutes to send it into overtime.Â
LC came out ready to play the extra time, controlling the flow of the game but could not find the back of the net again.Â
LC fired seven shots to Centenary's two shots in both overtimes, but two crucial saves by Riley crushed any hopes of a victory.Â
LC collectively had 26 shots with eight on target.
Alex Okuma and Urumovski each finished with four shots, Osawa and Rodriguez had three,
Gabriel M. Lopes,
Evan Norwood, and
Seth Collins had two, and Martinez and Nava had one. Brown finished with four saves, facing 12 shots with seven on goal.
LC returns to American Southwest Conference play Thursday afternoon against Hardin-Simmons and then Saturday afternoon against McMurry at Wildcat Stadium.Â
