The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats played their final home game of the season Saturday afternoon against the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in an American Southwest Conference showdown. The Tigers eventually took the game halfway through the second overtime 1-0. The Cats also honored four seniors for senior day:
Haley Clark,
Shannon French,
Bethel Chibesa, and
Diana Soto. The Wildcats travel to the University of Texas at Tyler and the University of the Ozarks next week for the final two games of the year.
Both sides were in a defensive battle, preventing any real chance in front of goal. The Tigers had a couple of dangerous looking possessions but
Haley Clark, who arguably had one of her best performances of the year, kept the score level with six saves in regulation and two more in overtime.
LC had two promising looking efforts during the match, first by
Maylen Mire in the 59th minute. Collecting the ball and taking it past two defenders to the touchline, but could not keep her shot on frame. Then a just high shot by
Rami Mitchell in the 71st minute, sending her shot between the goal post and the field goal post from just outside the 18-yard box.
The score remained scoreless after 90 minutes, so the game went to overtime to either determine a winner or end in a draw.
A far attempt by
Molly Edelman nearly ended the game, but the ball slid just wide of the goal to conclude the first overtime.
The rain started to come down as the second overtime kicked off, and the Tigers used it to close the game. In the 105th minute, ETBU headed in the winner after a previous shot hit the crossbar and stayed in play. The Cats lost their final home game 1-0. Hitting the road next week, LC plays their final two ASC and season games at the University of Texas at Tyler and the University of the Ozarks Thursday and Saturday afternoon.
