Box Score

The Louisiana College volleyball team returned to the court Saturday for their first match against LeTourneau University. The Yellow Jackets took the first meeting between the two programs in four sets 25-13, 21-25, 25-16, 25-15 for their first American Southwest Conference win of the season. The loss moves the Wildcats to 0-13 and 0-8 in conference play. LC travels to the University of Texas at Dallas next week for a rematch with the Comets.

The first set began as a tightly contested affair with the Wildcats only trailing by two at 6-4, but it was at that point LETU took over the match. A service error put the ball in the Yellow Jackets control and Korissa White at the serve. The next 12 consecutive points would all go to the home team with five kills, two aces, and two blocks included in the run. The Wildcats didn't give in and battled from a 20-5 deficit end the set on an 8-5 advantage, but the margin was too great to overcome.

Undeterred by the frustration of the middle of the first set, the Wildcats put together one of the best frames of the season to win their second set of the year. LC hit a season high .303 in the second set that included 13 kills. Set two was back-and-forth the entire way, with six tie scores along the way. Just when it seemed one team would seize momentum, the other would take it right back. With the set tied at 19, back-to-back kills from Jaslyn Bright and Sadi Jones gave LC a small cushion that they extended on another Bright kill and a LETU attack error. Jones added another of her 13 kills to make it 24-21 in LC's favor and the Yellow Jackets ended with a bad set give the Wildcats their second set win of the season, tying the match at one each.

The third and fourth frames played out similarly to the first, as LeTourneau made a seven point run early in the third set to take control in route to a 25-16 win. Then in the fourth the Jackets employed the two-for-one strategy, scoring two points or more for each of the Wildcats one point to cruise to a 25-15 set and match win.

The Wildcats struggled a bit with fatigue in the third and fourth sets as the hitting percentage went down and the errors went up, committing 13 errors in the final two sets as opposed to just three in their second set win.

For the second match in a row Sadi Jones led the Wildcats in kills with 13 on the day, Jaslyn Bright finished just one behind with 12. Jones also proving her value on defense made 14 digs in the match, second only to libero Olivia Huval who had 16. Paris Babino had 27 assists, second most in a single match this year for the Wildcats.

LC will make another trip to Texas next weekend as they take on two of the elite in the American Southwest Conference. The Wildcats play at UT Dallas on Friday before making a stop at the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday. LC doesn't return for a home match until the weekend of October 20 when thy play East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau on Friday and Saturday.
