Box Score

After an exciting first home match in program history on Friday, the Louisiana College volleyball team returned to the court on Saturday against another of the American Southwest Conference powerhouse teams, the University of Texas at Dallas. The Comets experience and ability propelled them to a straight set victory over the Wildcats, 25-14, 25-18, 25-11, giving LC their seventh loss of the season.

The first set was close through the beginning of the match, with LC and UTD trading points and the Wildcats only trailing 9-8 midway through the opening set. The next two rotations thought proved to be the downfall for LC, as the Comets outscored the Wildcats 11-1 to take a commanding 20-9 lead. LC battled the rest of the set but it ended on an LC service error to give UTD the opening win.

The second set began with a 7-0 Comet run, before a Jaslyn Bright kill got the Wildcats on the board. As they have shown through the season to this point, the Wildcats continued to battle, working their way back into the match to get within two, thanks to an ace from libero Olivia Huval a kill from Bright and two attack errors by the Comets. Two quick points and a pair of 3-0 runs extended the Comet lead back to eight at 22-14, and they would go on to finish things in the second at 25-18.

LC found themselves in an early hole to start the final set of the day, as UTD went ahead 4-0 before Paris Babino found a point to get the Wildcats on the board. With LC continuing to hang around at 10-7, the Comets and the serve of Sydney Riordan put the match well into the hands of the highly touted visitors. A series of 10 unanswered points put the Comets in a comfortable 20-7 lead. Sadi Jones and Jaslyn Bright would get a couple kills in the final few points but it would be the Comets that would take the final set 25-11 and the match.

Jaslyn Bright finished with 13 kills on the day and Paris Babino had 17 assists. Libero Olivia Huval kept things alive 11 times with digs on the defensive side. The Wildcats finish their three-game home stand on Wednesday as Belhaven makes the trip to H.O. West Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. start.
