Box Score

The Louisiana College volleyball team made their first in-state road trip of the year, two hours north to Shreveport to take on the Centenary College Ladies on Wednesday night. The Wildcats were unable to pick up their first win as they went down in straight sets to Centenary, 25-17, 25-21, 25-14. The Wildcats host the University of Texas at Tyler in the first-ever home match Friday at 7 p.m.

LC got off to an early lead in the first set, going up 6-3 after one of 10 kills by freshman Jaslyn Bright. Centenary though would storm back to take the lead and control of the first set thanks to a 14-4 run that included a streak of six straight points during the serve of Hailey Lawson to go ahead 17-10. They would go on to finish the first set 25-17, capping things with an ace to take the opening stanza.

The second set was much closer, especially through the first half of play. The teams seemed to trade points and momentum with multiple ties and lead changes. LC held a 16-14 advantage, when the Ladies made a run of four straight points to go ahead 18-16, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the set. The Wildcats got back within a point at 20-19 on a kill by Sadi Jones, but another four-point run by Centenary gave them some breathing room to take the second set 25-21.

Just as they did in the first two sets of the night, the Wildcats took an early lead in what turned out to be the final set of the night, going ahead 2-0 on a Centenary error and a kill from Jones. Another Centenary run of six points this time put them on top 8-3, and although the Wildcats would battle back within a couple points on three different occasions, it was Centenary that would hold on for the 25-14 third set, and match win.

Jaslyn Bright led the Wildcats with 10 kills on the night, followed by six from Sadi Jones and five from Naya Marshall, who also led the team in total blocks with four, her best number on the young season. Libero Olivia Huvall and Sadi Jones both had double digit digs in the match with 13 and 10 respectively.

The Wildcats open up their American Southwest Conference schedule on Friday at 7 p.m. as they host, for the first time in school history, a volleyball match in H.O. West Fieldhouse. LC will take on UT Tyler before a match with the University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday afternoon at H.O. West.
