The Louisiana College men's and women's tennis teams split their matches with Centenary College on Tuesday afternoon, with the women winning a close 5-4 decision and the men falling 8-1 to the Gents. Both team's will have home matches against Jacksonville College this Saturday at the Richard L. Crowell Tennis Center on the Louisiana College campus.
After dropping two of the three doubles matches to start the day,
Shannon French and
McKenna Raines winning LC's only doubles match 8-4 over the Ladies, the Wildcats won four of the six singles matches to take the 5-4 team victory.
Rachel Johnson started the singles run with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the one spot.
McKenna Raines took her match in the third spot blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0, and in the best match of the day
Shannon French took down Luisa Delgadillo in a tie break, 6-4, 3-6 (10-7), giving LC the 4-3 team lead. After dropping the fifth singles match,
Taylor Payne won the decisive match 6-1, 6-1 to give the LC women their first team win of the season.
On the men's side the Wildcats dropped all three of the doubles matches to the Gents, with two of the matches ending in 9-7 and 8-6 close decisions. The team
Brandon Watkins and
Mike Davis fell 8-6 and the combo of
Nathan Gautreaux and
Todd Ryals was downed 9-7. On the singles side,
Nathan Gautreaux won the Wildcats only match of the day in another close contest, 6-3, 4-6 (10-6).
The Wildcats team's will compete against Jacksonville College this Saturday at the Richard L. Crowell Tennis Center.Â
