Box Score

Less than 24 hours after winning their first match in program history, the Louisiana College volleyball team decided they enjoyed winning so much that they'd do it again. The Wildcats completed a three set sweep of Fontbonne University on Saturday afternoon to end the 2017 season with a two game winning streak.

Riding the high of the previous evening's victory, the Wildcats came into the match with Fontbonne with a new confidence. LC took the early lead thanks to a service error, and ace from Sadi Jones and a kill from Jaslyn Bright. The Wildcats kept the Griffins at bay until a four-point swing but Fontbonne ahead 11-10. Just moments later, the Wildcat put together a run of their own to retake control of the set. It was the LC block combination of Taylor Payne and Zharian Maxmillion that helped score four points of the five total in the run. The Wildcats worked their way to set point at 24-19, but the Griffins would not go away quietly getting three kills before Sadi Jones was able to break through for the set point kill for the Wildcats.

Falling just short in the first left Fontbonne flat entering the second set and the Wildcats would take full advantage. After a set opening kill by the Griffins, it would be the Wildcats that would take complete control scoring the next 11 points in a row. Three attack errors and three kills from Bright provided the bulk of the scoring during the Wildcats longest point streak of the season. The Wildcats dominated the remainder of the set, converting on over half of their attack attempts in the set, finishing with a .520 hitting percentage. Bright and Jones combined for nine kills in the set and Fontbonne committed nine errors.

The third set began just the opposite as the second with Fontbonne taking the early control with a 13-3 lead on the Wildcats. It was libero Olivia Huval that helped engineer the 11-point Wildcat run in the second with her serve and she was just as effective in the third set. A kill from Maxmillion put the serve back into her hands and the Wildcats embarked on a 6-0 stretch to climb right back into the game. The Griffins maintained their lead, but LC continued to work their way closer and closer until finally tying the set at 19. Down 22-20 the serve rotation made its way back to Huval and the Wildcats scored four straight to get to match point over Fontbonne. An attack that landed just out side the back line ended the match in the Wildcats favor and gave them their first three set sweep ever.

Sadi Jones was exceptional for the Wildcats in the match earning 14 kills on just 22 total attacks for a .545 hitting percentage. She also had one block assist and nine digs in the match. Zharian Maxmillion and Taylor Payne combined for four blocks each. Paris Babino had another 30-assist match with 33, the fourth time this year she has eclipsed 30 assists. Olivia Huval led the team once again with 22 digs, the fifth match this year with 20 or more digs.

The Wildcats one have one senior, Taylor Payne, with the majority of the roster entering the season as freshmen or sophomores. Stay connected with Louisiana College during the offseason by following them on Twitter and like them on Facebook.
