Box Score

Louisiana College volleyball wrapped up its 2017 American Southwest Conference schedule on Tuesday night with a road trip to Belhaven University. The Wildcats played solidly through the match but were unable to prevent big runs and power kills by the Blazers in the 3-0 straight set loss. LC will play their final three matches of the season this weekend in Memphis, Tenn. at the Blues City Invite, hosted by Rhodes College.

Things started off well for the Wildcats as Sadi Jones got the Wildcats first point on the opening serve with a kill in the middle of the floor. Belhaven scored to answer but the Cats got a kill from Zharian Maxmillion and two services aces from Jones to take an early 4-1 lead. The Blazers though found their footing in the set and went on a 15-2 run to take complete control of the first set. LC found a couple of points down the stretch from Jones and Olivia Huval, both with kills, but the lead was too great and Belhaven won the first set 25-13.

The second set was competitive from the start as the teams seemingly traded points until the game was tied at eight points each. That was when Belhaven made their first push for the set with a 5-0 run to take the 13-8 lead. The Wildcats though would answer with a 4-0 run of their own just moments later that included a Jaslyn Bright kill and a Sadi Jones ace to tie things once again at 14. LC tried to make a push to win the set but for every point the Wildcats scored the rest of the way, the Blazer scored two and eventually finished at 25-19 for the two set lead.

Down 9-4 in the third set, the Wildcats began to climb their way back up the ladder. A Belhaven error and back-to-back kills from Jones brought LC within a pair, then a later kill by Bright and two more Blazer errors put LC in the lead at 12-11. After a timeout settled the Wildcat momentum and put it firmly in the Belhaven corner. Six straight points out of the timeout gave the Blazer a comfortable lead at 17-12. They would end up finishing the set with a 25-18 win with Bright and Jones picking up a couple kills the rest of the way for the Cats.

Sadi Jones led LC with eight kills in the match, with Jaslyn Bright just behind with six on the night. Jones also added four aces, and two blocks in the match for the Wildcats. Paris Babino had another double-digit assist night and Olivia Huval had 19 digs in the match.

The Wildcats travel to Memphis and Rhodes College for their final three matches of the season this weekend. They take on Rhodes on Friday at 5pm followed by a match with another first-year program, Mississippi University for Women at 7pm. They end the season with a match against Fontbonne University on Saturday afternoon.
