Box Score

Louisiana College volleyball hosted their conference rival East Texas Baptist University in their final meeting of the 2017 season on Friday night at H.O. West Fieldhouse. The evening was dedicated to cancer awareness as fans donated to the Side Out Foundation and the match was played in memory of a close friend of Wildcat Naya Marshall that passed away in September. Even with the emotional component of the night, ETBU was able to overcome the Wildcats early presence to take the match in straight sets 25-13, 25-12, 25-12. LC finishes their 2017 home schedule on Saturday with a 2 pm match against LeTourneau.

The Wildcats came out strong in the first set, getting a kill from Jaslyn Bright for the match's first point, which was followed by a solo block by Sadi Jones and an ETBU attack error to put LC on top 3-0 quickly. LC extended their early lead to 6-2 before the Tigers found their footing in the set stringing together five straight points to take the lead. Although LC tied the match on the next point with a kill by Zharian Maxmillion, and again moments later on a kill by Bright, the Tigers controlled play the rest of the way. An 8-1 run put them comfortably in the lead and another 8-2 stretch put the set away at 25-13.

It would be the Tigers that started fast in the second set of the night, gaining a 10-2 lead before a service error finally stopped their momentum. The Wildcats recovered slightly thanks to kills from Brennen Parker and Said Jones, to get back within six points at 12-6. Parker also added two aces later in the set to get the Cats back with six again at 17-111, but a 7-0 run by ETBU that included three LC errors, all but put the set away fro the Tigers.

The end of the second carried over into the third for ETBU, as they enjoyed an 11-1 lead before Bright broke through with a kill for the Wildcats. LC tried to work their way back into the set but the 10-point deficit was too much for them to overcome. Bright had three more kills in the final set and Maxmillion added two of her own before the final point was tallied.

Jaslyn Bright finished the night with 10 kills, her third double-digit kill match in the last four outings. Paris Babino had 17 assists in the match, her 17th match in a row with 10 or more assists. Hannah Naquin led the Wildcats with eight digs in the match.

LC finishes their 2017 home schedule with an afternoon match with LeTourneau, scheduled to begin at 2pm. The match will serve as senior day for the Wildcats only senior Taylor Payne and fans can still donate to the Side Out Foundation for breast cancer research at the match.
