The Louisiana College women's volleyball team finished their second American Southwest Conference crossover event on Saturday with matches against Sul Ross State and McMurry University, two teams they met in the opening weekend at the beginning of September. The match with the Lobos played out similarly to their first meeting, with each set decided by just a couple points, but it would be Sul Ross that took the 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 win. The second meeting with McMurry however would not prove as fruitful as the War Hawks cruised to a 25-16, 25-4, 25-13 match win.

The Wildcats fell behind 5-2 to Sul Ross in the first set, after scoring the first two points of the match on kills by Jaslyn Bright. A four point LC swing just a few minutes later tied the match at seven, thanks to some hitting errors by the Lobos and a kill from Sadi Jones. The teams then traded points all the way to a 20-20 tie. The Lobos went on a 5-1 run to finish off the first set with three kills, a block, an LC attack error, Jones provided the Wildcats only point down the stretch.

The second set seemed to be playing out as so many others have this season as Sul Ross held a 13-5 lead on the Wildcats. As they've done many times this season LC clawed their way back into the match, outscoring Sul Ross 18-12 through the end of the set, but the eight-point lead was enough for the Lobos to pull out the 25-23 set win. Six different Wildcats had kills in the back half of the set, led by Sadi Jones and Jaslyn Bright with four each.

A 7-0 run by the Wildcats in the third set seemed to give them the momentum they needed to take a set off the Lobos, going ahead 11-7 off the serve of Sadi Jones. The match was close the rest of the way, as LC could not pull away from the Lobos but held a 22-21 lead, just three points from taking the set. Sul Ross took the lead on two Wildcat hitting errors and a kill, then finished the set after an LC kill from Taylor Payne with another kill of their own for a 25-23 set and match win.

In the second match of the day against McMurry, the athletic and talented War Hawks displayed their prowess early and often against the Wildcats. McM jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first. The Wildcats put together a five-point string later in the set with a pair of kills from Zharian Maxmillion and a service ace from Sadi Jones to get back within five at 18-13. McMurry though was able gather their composure and finish on a 6-1 run with four kills and two blocks.

The second set was all War Hawks as they had an astonishing .522 hitting percentage in the set with 13 kills. Combined with the 11 errors committed by the Wildcats in the set, McMurry made quick work of LC for a 25-4 set win. After the tough second set the Wildcats did not give in resetting themselves for the third frame. McMurry went ahead 7-3 but a kill from Jaslyn Bright and two War Hawk errors got LC back within a point at 7-6. That would be as close as they would get the rest of the way because a 10-0 run put the War Hawks in prime position to finish the match. LC benefited from s few McMurry mistakes down the stretch and got a pair of kills from Bright, but the War Hawks easily finished things at 25-13.

Jaslyn Bright had 23 kills on the day between the two matches including a season-high 16 against Sul Ross. Paris Babino and Olivia Huval also set new single match season bests in assists and digs against the Lobos. Babino finished with 35 assists, eight more than her previous best, and Huval had 35 digs, 13 more than her previous mark.

The Wildcats play a midweek match on Wednesday as they travel back to Shreveport for another meeting with Centenary College. They then return to H.O. West Fieldhouse for the final two home matches of the season against East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau Friday and Saturday. Friday's match with ETBU is scheduled for 7pm, and Saturday's with LeTourneau is set for 2pm.
