Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsThe Louisiana College Lady Wildcats opened up their 2014 home schedule against a strong Division II Delta State team. Despite several well set up opportunities offensively by the Lady Cats, DSU was able to hold on for a 3-1 win at Wildcat Field on Wednesday night.
The Lady Cats would have the first opportunity to score in the match when Pam Usry had a great look at the first goal of the night in the 18th minute of the first half, but her shot went wide and DSU was able to avoid the scare.Â
Tabitha Hayden would then respond just four minutes later when she broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal to give DSU the 1-0 lead.Â
Tais Cotta would then give DSU a 2-0 lead in the 26th minute of the first half when she took an assist Hayden off a deflection from LC's defense and found the back of the net to give th visitors a two goal lead going into the half.Â
LC would have a pair of opportunities to score their first goal of the match in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but a Katie Swaine save on a shot by McKenzie Bodin spoiled one such oppportunity in 64th minute.
Zully Maldonado would then have her shot go wide in the 67th minute.
But Pam Usry, who had scored both of LC's previous two goals on the season, would show off the leadership that made her an All-ASC performer from a season ago, as she beat Swaine one-on-one to score her third goal of the season off of a nice assist from
Jayme Harmon to pull the Lady Cats within a goal at 2-1.Â
The Lady Cats' defense would then hold until late in the second half when Cotta put the match out of reach in the 87th minute with her second goal of the match after the ball the ball took an unfortunate deflection off of the crossbar on a shot from Rebecca Deegan.Â
The match against DSU was one of two the Lady Wildcats (0-5 on the year) will play over the next eight days against higher Division opponents, as they will face Division I Southern University of Baton Rouge after their match against Hendrix College at home on Friday.Â
