With their American Southwest Conference Tournament hopes still up in the air, the Louisiana College men's basketball team took a tough loss against LeTourneau, falling to the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 67-62 in Longview, Tx. on Thursday night.
Despite another impressive night from freshman point guard
Kevin Cottonham (17 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists) and a career high 10 points and 4 rebounds from fellow freshman
Kevin Lewis, the Wildcats were unable to find an answer for LeTourneau's Justin Jones.
The Yellow Jacket's star post player scored 20 points on 10-18 shooting, while Ladaria Brown (13 points, 5 rebounds) and Christian Driver (11 points, 7 rebounds) also hit double figures for LETU.
Cottonham and Lewis were the only Wildcats in double figures, with
Derrick Gardner leading the way with 10 rebounds while
Anthony Gaines, Jr. had a career high 5 steals.
The Wildcats struggled behind the 3-point line for the second consecutive game, going just 5-20 (25%) from beyond the arc.
LC falls to 3-8 overall, 3-6 in ASC play. Despite dropping back-to-back ASC contests, the Wildcats still have a shot at postseason play with traditional ASC East power Texas-Dallas coming to Pineville on Thursday January 17
th for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
The Wildcats pulled one of the biggest upsets of
Gene Rushing's career against the Comets in February of 2010, when LC defeated 17
th ranked Texas-Dallas 69-68 in the H.O. West Fieldhouse.
