PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College men got a much-needed American Southwest Conference win Saturday, downing LeTourneau 71-56 at home to keep pace in the race for the conference tournament.
LC (7-11, 7-9 ASC) is current battling with Texas-Tyler and Mississippi College for the third and fourth slots in the American Southwest Conference's East Division, the final two berths in the ASC tournament at the end of the month.
On Saturday, the Wildcats outscored LeTourneau (3-15, 2-12 ASC) 46-34 to pull away with the win in what was the largest margin of victory for LC this season.
It was also the Wildcats' best overall team effort as four LC players reached doublefigures.
Senior wing
Jarrod Jackson (Albany, La./Albany HS) led all scorers with 18 to go along with seven boards while junior post
Shaun Johnson (Oakdale, La./Oakdale HS) came off the bench to provide 13 points, nine rebounds, six steals and one assists.
The 6-foot-5 Johnson also provided the dagger with a late, two-handed dunk.
Senior
Jelani Mitchell (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville HS) scored 11 points and had six assists and senior post
Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye HS) scored 111 points while pulling eight rebounds, dishing out seven assists, blocking one shot and making two steals.
LeTourneau was led by Trey Perkins who finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
LC returns to action Thursday night with a visit to ASC opponent Ozarks.
