BOX SCORE
A 15-plus hour bus ride and a severe change in altitude was no match for the Lady Wildcats on Thursday night, as they walked out of the Pete P. Gallego Center with a 123-54 dismantling of the Sul Ross Lady Lobos.
While most teams who face the Lady Wildcats expect them to shoot, and shoot often, not many could have anticipated the shooting performance that Jason Tinsley's squad put on in Alpine, Tx, racking up the most points ever scored in Tinsley's tenure at LC.
It was also the most points ever scored in the history of the LC women's basketball program.
The Lady Wildcats finished the game 39-100 from the field. However, the difference came from behind the arc, as LC drains an amazing 20 three pointers on 54 attempts while Sul Ross was 5-23 from deep.
LC's suffocating press defense also managed to force 40 turnovers compared to only 18 for Sul Ross.
The Lady Wildcats had six players score in double figures, including three that topped the 20 point mark (
Neka Jones,
Kala Chenier, and
Natosha Gottlieb, who all scored 20 points a piece).
Gottlieb, the reigning ASC Player of the Week, continued her outstanding play to begin the season, as she added 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 6 steals to her 20 points.
Now 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play and 4-0 on the season, the Lady Wildcats will turn their eyes to perennial ASC powerhouse Howard Payne, who won the 2008 Division III women's basketball national championship. The Lady Wildcats will tip off with the Lady Yellow Jackets at 1 p.m. on Saturday December 1 In Brownwood, Tx.
