After a tough start to the 2010 season, the Louisiana College women's team logged it's first win in a big way, defeating NCAA Division I Centenary 6-3 on the road Saturday.
It was a great win and one that came on the heals of back-to-back 9-0 home losses to LeTourneau and William Carey to start the year.
Versus Centenary, though, the Lady Cats were superior with Natalie Mazambie, Shelby Berthelot, Raquel Flaggert and Lannie Walker all notching singles wins along with the doubles teams of Jessica Ward and Berthelot and Flaggert and Walker.
Mazambie and Meggie Hixson also competed in doubles action but fel 8-2 to Isadora Bickham and Holden Penney.
Hixson and Ward also represented the Lady Cats in singles action but lost to Bickham and Penney, resepectively.
On Feb. 19, the Lady Cats struggled to find offense vs. William Carey and did not win a singles or doubles match.
Hixson, Ward, Berthelot, Flaggert and Marie Champayne represented LC in singles while Hixson and Ward and Flaggert and Berthelot handled the doubles duty.
Against LeTourneau, on Feb. 16, Hixson fell to Caitlyn Harrell 6-3 and 6-2, Ward to Mary Bright 6-0 and 6-0, Berthelot to Brooke Kincade 6-0 and 6-0, Flaggert to Kerrie Nelson 6-2 and 6-1, Champayne to Stephanie Wilson 6-1 and 6-0 and Walker to Elise Athans 6-0 and 6-0.
