MOBILE, Ala. – The #13/#8 Louisiana Christian University women's tennis team saw its season come to an end as the Wildcats dropped its first round match at the 45
th Annual UTR Sports NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships, falling 4-2 to the (RV)/#36 Stanton Elks Tuesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center.
#13/#8 Louisiana Christian (12-7) jumped out quick in the race for the one doubles point as
Akari Uchiyama and
Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez quickly dispatches of their opponents in the number three match, 6-1.
However, (RV)/#36 Stanton (10-5) responded quickly and decisively to take the doubles point, winning the number one match with a 6-2 score and the number two match 6-3 to claim the 1-0 lead overall heading into singles action.
Again, it was Uchiyama who quickly tied the match back up after singles play began as she decisively defeated her opponent in the number four match by a 6-1, 6-1 score, making the overall score 1-1.
The Elks jumped back ahead, taking the point from the number five match 6-1, 6-2 to go back in the lead 2-1.
Farren Allysia Sandy got the Wildcats back in it as she won the point in the number six match-up, defeating her opponent 7-6 (5), 7-5, to tie the overall score again at 2-2.
But a couple of tight matches on courts one and two, both of which went to third sets, went the way of the Elks, giving Stanton the overall victory, 4-2.
LCU's season ends with a 12-7 overall record and the program's first appearance in a National Championship Tournament.
