PINEVILLE, La. – The #18/#15 Louisiana Christian University women's tennis team faced a stiff challenge, pulling out a 4-3 win over the Dillard Bleu Devils Friday afternoon at the Richard L. Crowell Tennis Center.
#18/#15 Louisiana Christian (4-3, 1-0 RRAC) had to rally back to win the doubles point. After the Wildcats fell on court three,
Farren Allysia Sandy and
Elizaveta Mikhailova got the doubles series back even with a 6-4 win on court one.
Raquel Coelho Rodrigues and
Valeria Callejo secured the doubles point following a tough battle, winning the match 7-5 to give LCU the 1-0 lead overall.
The match was tied back up in singles action as Dillard (0-3) took the point on number one singles to even the overall score at 1-1.
But LCU soon got back in control.
Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez dispatched her opponent on court four, 6-1, 6-3, putting the Wildcats back in front, 2-1.
Coelho Rodrigues was the next to come in a winner, finishing the battle between the number two singles with a 6-0, 6-4 victory, putting the Wildcats one win away from securing the match victory.
And LCU would get that win on court three as Callejo took down her foe, 6-3, 6-2, securing the victory with a 4-1 score. With the win already in hand, the Wildcats dropped the results on courts five and six to round out the day.
The Wildcats return to the court on March 5 as LCU heads down to New Orleans to take on Our Lady of the Lake in a Red River Athletic Conference match. Opening serve against the Saints (3-1, 0-0 RRAC) is set for 12 p.m. at the Dillard Tennis Center.
