TEXARKANA, Texas – The #18/#15 Louisiana Christian University women's tennis team started the Texas A&M-Texarkana Invitational with a dominant, 4-0 sweep of the Freed-Hardeman Lions Friday afternoon at the Tennis Courts at Texarkana College.
Louisiana Christian (1-2) rolled to the doubles point with Raquel Rodrigues Coelho and
Valeria Callejo winning their match on court two by a 6-2 score. The duo of
Elizaveta Mikhailova and
Farren Allysia Sandy on court one and the combination of
Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez and
Akari Uchiyama on court three both won their matches by identical 6-1 scores, putting the Wildcats up 1-0 over Freed-Hardeman (1-1).
It wasn't long in singles competition before the win was secured. Ferrer Martinez blanked her opponent in #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Callejo took the #3 singles match 6-0, 6-1 while over at #6 singles, Uchiyama won by a flipped version of that score, 6-1, 6-0, securing the overall victory, 4-0, and bringing all other matches to a halt.
The Wildcats wraps up play at the Texas A&M-Texarkana Tennis Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches. The day opens at 10 a.m. by taking on the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles (2-1) at Texarkana College. The event wraps up at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove High School, taking on the host, (RV) TAMUT Eagles (7-0).
