PINEVILLE, La. – Things were looking good for the Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team, scoring first and holding the lead from the ninth minute to the 64^th, but an 88^th minute winner by Texas A&M-Victoria sent the Wildcats to their first loss of 2025, falling to the Jaguars 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
 
LCU's again found success on the set play as Isabella Urbaneto's corner kick found the body of Giselle Laing, redirecting it into the goal to give the Wildcats (2-1, 1-1 RRAC) a 1-0 lead after less than eight and a half minutes.
 
But from that point, the Louisiana Christian offense went cold as A&M-Victoria (4-2-2, 1-1 RRAC) started to dominate possession. However, the Wildcats kept the Jaguars off the board in the first half and the LCU took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
 
The momentum the Jaguars built throughout the end of the first half continued into the second half as TAMUV out-shot LCU 12-0 in the last 45 minutes. The Jaguars broke through in the 64^th minute, taking a quick free kick just outside of the box, which caught LCU as the Wildcats were getting in position, scoring directly off the free kick to level the score at 1-1.
 
With the clock ticking down to a potential draw, TAMUV found a winner with less than two and a half minutes left, downing the Wildcats.
 
A&M-Victoria held the possession, taking 17 shots and putting nine on frame compared to two shots for the Wildcats and the only one on frame going in for a goal.
 
Laing took both LCU shots in the contest. Marta Papandrea was credited with seven saves in the contest.
 
The Wildcats return to action on Thursday in Longview, Texas, taking on Texas College. Opening kickoff against the Steers (0-2, 0-2 RRAC) is set for 1 p.m. at Lear Park.
