Wildcats Blank North American to Open RRAC Play

Rocha, Liang Both Score While LCU Pitches Second-Straight Shutout in RRAC Opener

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team controlled the flow of the match in its Red River Athletic Conference opener against North American, scoring a goal in each half to take a 2-0 win over the Stallions Thursday evening at Wildcat Field.

The Wildcats (2-0, 1-0 RRAC) used a set piece to get the match's first goal in its 15th minute. Isabella Urbaneto lined up a corner kick, placing it perfectly in the box. Giovanna Rocha was able to get her head to the ball, sliding it inside the right post to score her first goal of the season and give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way to the break.

Out of the break, LCU added to its lead shortly after retaking the field. In the 57th minute, Ana Guedes was on the ball and slipped a pass in front of Giselle Laing. Laing got on the end of the pass and rolled the ball inside the left post for her fifth goal of the season to put the Wildcats up 2-0, which is how the game would end.

The Wildcats took 25 shots in the match, putting 13 on target throughout the 90 minutes. North American (0-8, 0-1 RRAC) took 10 shots, putting eight on frame, all of which were stopped by LCU goalkeeper Marta Papandrea, who picked up her first shutout of the season while the team collected its second clean sheet in two matches on the year.

Liang and Guedes both took six shots in the match with Liang putting four on target while Guedes had one on frame. Rocha made five attempts at the net with three on target, including her goal. Urbaneto ripped four shots, two of which were on frame.

The Wildcats finish the first weekend of RRAC action on Saturday at Texas A&M-Victoria come to Pineville. Kickoff of Saturday's contest against the Jaguars (3-2-2, 0-1 RRAC) is set for 1 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
