Barriga Casallas Breaks Up The Shutout For Season’s First Goal At #2 WCU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer program snapped its 163-minute scoreless streak with a goal in the 74th minute, but it was too little, too late as the second-ranked William Carey Crusaders had already built a 4-0 lead on its way to a 5-1 decision.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Valeria Barriga Casallas was the messenger that delivered the first score of 2024 for the Cats, recording career goal number seven on her lone shot of the match as she has contributed 19 points during her tenure on "The Hill".

  • Kayleigh Tomasich delivered the ball to her Colombian teammate to account for her second assist at LCU, and her first since freshman year in that special fall 2021 campaign.

  • Kamsi Nwosu got a shot off for the second straight contest while Emma Monnet placed her one attempt on-target as Louisiana Christian could only muster three shots on the stout defense donning the Red and Black.

  • Jaycee Woods withstood tough sledding as she stared down the barrel of a dozen shots, but was still able to snag seven more stops.

Record Book Watch:

Career
  • The only movement made in the history books was Woods, who slid onto the backend of the top-ten for career saves, collecting her 76th on Thursday evening to give her predecessor, Jessica Carro Pedreira (2021-22), the proverbial boot.
