VICTORIA, Texas – A culture change is done step-by-step, and for the Louisiana College women's soccer team, another step was achieved as the Wildcats picked up a second in-conference victory for the first time since the 2013 season as a 43rd minute goal stood up for LC in a 1-0 win over the Houston-Victoria Jaguars Saturday afternoon at The Cage.
The Wildcats enjoyed the run of play for most of the contest, with the one necessary shot finding the back of the net in the 43rd minute as Isabella Campos Paniagua found Stephanie Doran and Doran did the rest for the match's only goal.
Doran's goal was her sixth of the season, second game-winner, as she put up four shots in the match, three of which were on frame. Martina Terra Garcia took a team high six shots, three on target. As a team, the Wildcats took 18 shots in the contest and put nine on frame.
Jessica Carro Pedreira (6-1) didn't have much to do in net for the Wildcats, but when she was called upon, she came up huge. Houston-Victoria took six shots in the contest, two on target. Both shots on frame for UHV came in one-on-one situations between Carro Pedreira and a Jaguar forward, which Carro Pedreira won with saves to achieve her first solo clean sheet as a Wildcat. She teamed up with Madison McDowell for a combined shutout of Central Baptist earlier this season.
The Wildcats (6-1, 2-0 RRAC) have already tied the 2007 team with the most wins in a single season, with records dating back to the 2000 season, and have won two conference games for the first time since 2013. They look to keep the hot start going on Thursday with LC's RRAC home opener against Texas A&M-San Antonio. Kickoff of the match against the Jaguars (0-2-2, 0-0-2 RRAC) is set for 5:00 P.M. at Wildcat Field.
