Edelman Blast Not Enough for Shorthanded Wildcats

LC Forced to Play Final 20 Minutes Down Player with Injury, BELH Scores Twice with Advantage

PINEVILLE, La. – Sr. MF Molly Edelman unleashed a blast from more than 30 yards out for the Louisiana College women's soccer team's first goal of the spring 2021 season, but an injury that dropped the Lady Wildcats down to ten players was too much to overcome in a 3-1 loss to the Belhaven Blazers Saturday evening at Wildcat Field.

The Lady 'Cats fell behind in the 14th minute as a free kick by Belhaven found its way into the net. But with time ticking down before halftime, Larisa Soliz got on the end of an errant pass by the Blazers in the attacking midfield and one-touched it over to Edelman. Edelman took some of the space in front of her before stepping into the shot from roughly 33 yards away from the goal and slotted it over the outstretched hands of the Belhaven goalkeeper and under the bar for the goal in the 40th minute.

LC and Belhaven continued to battle each other tied at 1-1 to the 70th minute, and that's when the Lady 'Cats hopes for victory took a major hit when an injury took a player off the pitch for the remainder of the contest with no substitutes available to come off the bench. Now down a player, it wouldn't take long for the Blazers to take advantage and score the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute. They would add an insurance goal in the 84th minute to see out the contest.

Molly Edelman's goal was her first of the season and sixth of her Louisiana College career. She took both of LC's shots in the contest, with the goal being the lone one on target. Larisa Soliz was credited with her second assist of her career and first since the 2018 season.

Bailey Danton again stood tall amongst a constant onslaught as she was credited with 12 saves in the contest.

The Lady Wildcats (0-2, 0-2 ASC) return to action looking for their first win of the season on the road next Saturday at LeTourneau. Kickoff against the Yellow Jackets (1-4-1, 0-1 ASC) is set for 5:00 P.M. at the LETU Soccer Field.
