Wildcats Clinch First-Ever RRAC Postseason Championship

LCU Knocks Off OLLU 1-0 in RRAC Tournament Championship Match

TEXARKANA, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team finished an undefeated maiden endeavor through the Red River Athletic Conference by knocking off the Our Lady of the Lake Saints 1-0 in the Final of the 2021 RRAC Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon at Judy Kelley Morgan Field on the campus of Texas A&M-Texarkana to clinch the program's first-ever conference postseason title and earn an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championship Tournament.

The more tournament-tested Saints, who were making their third-straight RRAC Tournament Championship Match appearance, took the fight to the Wildcats, who were making their Conference Tournament debut, in the opening minutes as OLLU was able to get a shot on goal within the opening two minutes.

But as the match settled in, the Wildcats slowly started to gain more possession and the chances on goal started to be dominated LCU. However, none of those chances would go in and the two teams went to the break still scoreless.

Louisiana Christian continued the pressure into the second half, and it finally resulted in the ball going into the net. In the 53rd minute, a perfect through ball got to the foot of Stephanie Doran, who was one-on-one with the OLLU goalkeeper. But the Saints GK was up to the task, parrying Doran's shot off to the side for a Wildcat corner. Lindsey Jacobs sent the ensuing corner into the box, and the ball took a carom off an OLLU player and into the net for an own goal for the match's only score.

Now possessing the lead, the Wildcats did not sit back and defend. Instead, the Wildcats continued to press for a second goal, getting even more attempts on goal throughout the remainder of the match even though it was the Saints who needed the equalizer. No more shots would go into the goal, however, and the Wildcats were crowned undisputed champions of the Red River Athletic Conference in the team's first season in the conference.

Lindsey Jacobs and Stephanie Doran both took four shots in the match with Doran putting two on target while Jacobs put one on frame. Valerie Greer and Laura Pérez Velasco each took two shots with one on frame apiece.

Jessica Carro Pedreira (15-1-1) was credited with two saves as she picked up her seventh clean sheet on the year and didn't allow a goal in either of LCU's matches in the RRAC Championship Tournament.

The Red River Athletic Conference Champion Wildcats (16-1-1) now await their assignment to which Opening Round site they will be sent to in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. They will find out where they will play and which opponent they will face when the NAIA streams its Women's Soccer Tournament Selection Show on Monday, November 15th at 11:00 A.M on the NAIA Facebook page.
