SHREVEPORT, La. – While the Louisiana College women's soccer team conceded a goal for the first time in more than 400 minutes, that would not stop a historic moment for the Wildcats as LC hit double figures in wins in a season for the first time in program history while also continuing the longest win streak in program history with a 2-1 win over the LSU Shreveport Pilots Saturday afternoon at The Swamp.
Exactly 406 minutes after Huston-Tillotson scored the last goal the Wildcats conceded back on September 23
rd, the Pilots jumped into the lead with a goal in the fourth minute of the contest to get on top 1-0.
But the Wildcats wouldn't allow that lead to last for too long as
Lindsey Jacobs fed in a pass to
Martina Terra Garcia, who scored to equalize at 1-1 in the 23
rd minute. The match would go to the half tied at 1-1.
The match would come down to the match's final 20 minutes, and it would decided off the feet of LC's two big boots as
Martina Terra Garcia sent the ball over the
Stephanie Doran and Doran converted for LC's second goal in the 75
th minute, which proved to be the match's final goal.
"It was a great, tough game, just like we thought it would be against a proud, defending conference champion LSUS team," said Louisiana College head women's soccer coach
Carla Tejas. "They got the lead on us pretty quickly, but once again our team showed that soccer is more than just kicking a ball. It's about character and team unity and it helped us get the goals we needed to get the result we wanted today. Now we turn our focus forward and get ready to play a tough LSUA side on Friday."
Stephanie Doran's game-winning goal was her 11
th goal of the season and fourth that decided the contest in LC's favor. She took a team high six shots against the Pilots, four of which were on frame.
Martina Terra Garcia's goal was also her 11
th of the season as Doran and Terra Garcia battle for not just the team lead in scoring but also the conference lead in that category. Terra Garcia took five shots in the match and the one she put on target went into the net while also collecting her fifth assist of the season.
Lindsey Jacobs took four shots, put two on frame, and collected her team-leading eighth assist of the season.
Emma Monnet also took six shots in the match with four put on frame. The Wildcats continued to assault opposing goals, taking 29 shots against the Pilots and put 13 on target.
Jessica Carro Pedreira (10-1) continued to add to her LC single season wins record by collecting her tenth victory in net for the Wildcats. She was credited with one save in the contest as LSUS sent three shots total her way, two on target.
The Wildcats (10-1, 6-0 RRAC) have ten wins in a single season for the first time in program history. They also collected six wins in-conference for the first time and the six straight wins is the longest win streak in program history as well. LC looks to make it seven wins in a row in the Rapides Parish Derby as LSU Alexandria makes the trip over the Red River for a conference contest. Kickoff for Friday's match against the Generals (3-5, 2-3 RRAC) is set for 5:00 P.M. at Wildcat Field.
