Courtney Ivey in the bottom of the ninth inning put the Louisiana College softball team over the top in their 2-1 extra inning win over Hardin-Simmons in the first round of the 2014 American Southwest Conference Tournament.
LC sophomore right-handed pitcher Madison Vige was dominant yet again in the circle for the Lady Cats, as she tossed seven innings while giving up just one hit and one earned run before giving way to fellow sophomore
Nancy Bunting in the eighth inning.
Bunting picked up the win after tossing two scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth inning.
LC was able to get on the board first and break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman shortstop
Jessica Johnson grounded out to HSU shortstop Braleigh Middleton to bring home
Jade Johnson and give the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead.
HSU would answer immediately in the top of the seventh inning when two Vige walks and a bunt single by Middleton loaded the bases. HSU catcher Lauren Williams would then hit an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
After both teams were held scoreless in the eighth inning, LC senior second baseman
Stephanie Jaeger provided the huge spark that the Lady Cats needed in the bottom of the ninth inning, as she ripped a two-out single to center field.
From there, Jaeger would steal second base and then advance to third base on passed ball to give LC the winning run on third base with two outs.
After
Meagan Pearson walked, Ivey would hit a walk-off RBI to the left side to score Jaeger and give LC the dramatic walk-off win.
The Lady Cats will now face the winner of Thursday's matchup between #1 seed Texas-Tyler and #8 seed LeTourneau on Friday morning at 10:00 AM at Suddenlink Field.
