Game 1 Box Score / Game 2 Box Score
PINEVILLE, La. - A little rain and a visit from the defending NCAA Division III champions didn't seem to have any ill effects of the Louisiana College softball team. Twice the Lady Cats came from behind in their last at-bat to defeat East Texas Baptist, 4-3 and 7-5, in a home American Southwest Conference East Division doubleheader.

LC (22-4, 9-3 ASC East) entered the game ranked No. 3 in the nation while East Texas Baptist (22-4, 7-3 ASC East) entered as the No. 8 team in the land.

In Game 1, it was a trio of unlikely heroes who led LC to victory in the bottom of the seventh.

WIth the Lady Cats trailing 3-2, Amanda Martin (Prairieville, La./St. Amant HS), pinch-hitting for third baseman Devan Greene (Kaplan, La./Kaplan HS), led off the inning with an infield single.

After starting first baseman Kaylee Guidry (Walker, La./Walker HS) reached on a single of her own, freshman Chelsey Allen (Houma, La./Vandebilt Catholic) entered as a pinch runner.

Two batters later, junior Cassie DeCoste (Pineville, La./Pineville HS), making only her sixth start of the season and batting in the nine hole, delivered a two-RBI single down the left-field line to end the contest.

In Game 2, the Lady Cats rallied from down 5-4 with a three-run sixth.

Amber Thomas (Rosepine, La./Rosepine HS) led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and was run for by Allen.

Martin, who got the start as designated player, and Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview Baptist) followed with singles of their own, Menard's sending Allen in for the score.

Freshman Stephanie Jaeger (Haughton, La./Haughton HS) then delivered the go-ahead RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Martin from third and Menard gave LC an insurace run on a throwing error by the Tigers.

Senior Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More) slammed the door on ETBU in the top of the seventh and improved to 7-3 on the year after pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief of Guidry.

Erin Garcia (10-3) took the loss for ETBU in that contest.

In the first game, LC's Rene' Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) improved to 12-1 on the season after pitching all seven innings and striking out four while the Tigers' Shelby Parker (7-1) took the loss despite striking out nine in seven innings of work.

Offfensively, the top performers for LC were Thomas and Menard.

Thomas went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Menard went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI.

LC returns to action this weekend with back-to-back conference doubleheaders at Ozarks on Friday and Saturday.
