PINEVILLE - Louisiana College freshman pitcher Anthony VanGessel (Tioga, La./Tioga High) has been named the American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week.
The honor came on the heels of VanGessel's performance in conference action versus the University of the Ozarks last Saturday.
The lefty earned the win against by going 6 1/3 innings and allowing just two runs with four strikeouts. He scattered five hits in the 4-2 victory that evened the three-game series at 1-1 .
The Wildcats would go on to claim the series with a second 4-2 win.
VanGessel also tossed a shutout inning with a strikeout against LSU-Alexandria earlier in the week.
The ASC East Hiitter of the Week was Mississippi College junior outfielder/designated hitter Stuart Magee (Columbia, MS / CHS), who went 11-for-11 with two home runs, two doubles and 10 RBI to fuel a 3-1 week that included a three-game ASC East Division series sweep of East Texas Baptist. Magee also scored seven runs, walked times and stole a base. He compiled a slugging percentage of 1.727.
In the west, McMurry junior outfielder Jake Mullin (Burleson, TX / BHS) was named Hitter of the Week after he went 10-for-17 with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs over four games that included an ASC West Division series win over Concordia Texas. Mullin, who takes the division's top weekly hitting award for the second time this season, also extended his hitting streak to 13 games. He scored four runs, walked once and struck out only one time.
Hardin-Simmons senior right-handed pitcher Tim Kriegel (Round Rock, TX / RRHS) was the ASC West Pitcher of the Week. He tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout with a school-record 14 strikeouts in an ASC West Division game against Howard Payne. Kriegel walked just two batters over the nine-inning gem. He had recorded 10 strikeouts through the sixth inning and needed just 58 pitches to do so.

PITCHERS: Texas-Tyler LHP Jameson Holt went 2-0, striking out five over nine innings of work. . . . Ozarks RHP Bobby Osburn did not allow an earned run over seven innings in a tough-luck loss to LC. . . Texas Lutheran RHP Jeremiah Steinert tossed a complete-game, six-hitter with seven strikeouts and just one unearned run allowed to defeat Sul Ross State . . . . Schreiner RHP J.P. Garcia tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout with four strikeouts to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor. . . . Concordia Texas RHP Ben Whiteley allowed just one earned run and had 10 strikouts over 8 1/3 innings of a no-decision against McMurry. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor RHP Cameron Arnett defeated Schreiner by going 8 1/3 innings with just two runs allowed and five strikeouts.
