Morgan, a native of Morris, Ala., is a great example of one who has given himself to service of others. Morgan was an outstanding prep athlete at Mortimer Jordan High School and at West Jefferson High School in Jefferson County, Ala.

Upon his graduation from high school, Morgan served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. After his discharge from service in 1955, Morgan enrolled at Memphis State University before transferring to Holmes Junior College in Goodman, MS. It was while playing linebacker and fullback for Holmes that Morgan earned the nickname “Earthquake.”

Morgan transferred to Louisiana College in 1957 and completed his eligibility while earning an education degree. During his senior season in 1958, Morgan scored six touchdowns and helped his team to the Rice Bowl, which still stands as the only bowl game in Louisiana College football history.

After his graduation from Louisiana College in 1959, Morgan began his coaching and teaching career. His first job was assistant football coach at Leesville High School. In 1960, Morgan moved back to his native Alabama and found success as the head football, basketball, and baseball coach at Kennedy High School. His basketball and baseball teams won county championships in 1960, and he was named the head baseball coach for the Alabama East-West All-Star Baseball Game after his baseball team reached the state semi-finals.

Morgan also coached at West Blocton High School, Ragland High School, Emma Sansom High School, and two stints at Arab High School, where he finished his coaching career in 1985. In all, Morgan’s accomplishments include 11 county baseball championships, a 140-48 overall basketball coaching record, six County Coach of the Year awards, two Alabama Baseball All-Star Game coaching appearances, and 10 trips to the state playoffs. Morgan also won district and county championships as a head basketball and head football coach.

Morgan’s success was also seen in the classroom. While at Emma Sansom, Morgan was voted Teacher of the Year and was a Finalist for Alabama Teacher of the Year. Morgan retired from teaching in 1993.

Since his retirement, Morgan has volunteered his time to the Arab High School baseball team which has qualified for the state playoffs each year in which he has helped the program. He also managed the Arab Little League Baseball Program that provides 400-500 children per year an opportunity to learn and play the game of baseball.

Morgan is married to the former Pat Ayers. They have two sons, Jeff and Keith, and three grandchildren. The Morgans are active members of the Arab Church of Christ and reside in Arab, Ala.
