Paul Poe, a six-foot, eight-inch forward from Hicks High School, in his four years at LC, became the most prolific scorer in school history. Poe, whose scoring record stood for over 20 years, scored 1,860 points and posted a school-record 18.3 points per game average.
He led the 1978-79 Wildcat squad to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics tournament in Kansas City behind a school-record 22-6 mark. In 2007, Poe was elected to the Louisiana Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Pete Maravich and Calvin Natt, among others.
