Mike Douchant was a four-year letterman at Louisiana College. In 1970, Louisiana College reinstated its baseball program and embarked upon a three-season winning streak.

Douchant played first base for the Wildcats and was also on the pitching staff. He was also on the basketball team for two years.

The basketball knowledge gleaned while at LC put Douchant in good stead at his position as statistician at The Sporting News in St. Louis, Missouri.

Douchant was quickly promoted to assistant editor of college and professional basketball and went on to serve as basketball editor for more than 15 years.

He has written several college basketball books, including “Encyclopedia of College Basketball” and “Tourney time with Dick Vitale.”

After 19 years with The Sporting News, Douchant left the publication and served as senior editor of “Lindy’s College Basketball” magazine. He subsequently was a college basketball contributor for several online networks.

The Wildcat Athletic Association inducted Michael Allen Douchant into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on October 19, 2001.
