Col. Henry E. Walden was coach and athletic director of LC from 1921-61 and is generally given credit for bringing LC athletics into prominence. Walden is credited with pitting his Wildcats against the University of Mexico in the first international football game in 1929. He also coached against the University of Miami in the first game of what today would be called the Orange Bowl.
