Captain Charles E. Ward, USN, of Pace, Fla., led the 1958 LC team to a 9-2 record which included a 39-12 win over Arkansas Tech in the Rice Bowl in Stuttgart, Arkansas. In that game, he scored two touchdowns and was credited for completing 28 of 57 passes for a net of 534 yards. Ward also led the LC baseball team, helping the '58 team best arch rival Northwestern State University for the first time in 16 years.
