Buck Buchanan, who holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from Austin College, begins his tenth season as an assitant football coach and is in his fifth year as an assistant athletic director. Buchanan is also the Wildcat football asssociate head coach. Before coming to Louisiana College, Buchanan worked at Austin College with both the football and women's basketball programs. While a player at AC, Buchanan accumulated a list of defensive awards and accolades.
During Buchanan's nine seasons as an assistant football coach, he has served as a defensive line coach, defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator. In 2006, as the offensive coordinator, LC had one of the best offenses in the ASC, ranking third in scoring offense (30.2 ppg) and total offense per game (400. 7 ypg.), and producing the ASC's Freshman of the Year in quarterback Ben McLaughlin. Nationally, the Wildcats ranked fourth in passing offense per game and 19th in total offense per game under his tutelage.
In 2007, Buchanan returned to the defensive side of the ball serving as the defensive coordinator. A young Wildcat defense showed marked improvement over the previous season. In 2008, Buchanan's defense ranked as one of the best in the ASC, ranking second in scoring defense (17.3 ppg) and total defense (309.8 ypg). Both are outstanding marks considering the ASC is one of the most prolific offensive conferences in the country. Also, in 2008, cornerback Kendale Rayford, who led the nation in passes defended, was named an All-American
Buck and his wife, Michelle, reside in Pineville.
