Louisiana College athletes donate to Central Louisiana Food Bank

On Thursday afternoon, the Louisiana College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) donated over 315 pounds of canned goods to the Food Ban of Central Louisiana.

The canned good drive, led by SAAC members, and LC softball players, Emily Douglas and Brianna Hall, led a campus wide project to get LC athletes involved in donating back to the Central Louisiana community.

For Douglas, the idea behind the food drive was to blaze a trail for other groups and organizations around campus.

“We, as athletes, wanted to set an example for other student led groups around Louisiana College,” said Douglas, a senior First Baseman on the LC softball team, “We're hoping that other organizations will follow in an effort to help out the Central Louisiana community.”

The willingness of athletes around the campus to help out with such an effort, especially around the holiday season, is one aspect of the school's athletic programs that the school is certainly proud of.

“It is refreshing knowing that so many of our student-athletes wanted to give back in a time of need,” said LC senior softball pitcher Brianna Hall, “We had a lot of people step up in helping with this project.”

Douglas and Hall were joined Thursday at the food bank by fellow LC athletes Chelsea Allen (softball), Iris Tuttle (women's soccer), and baseball players Daniel Bonadona, Madison Lachney, and Brennan Russell.

“This was a special moment for all of us, “ said Lachney, “knowing that we were able to help out this community that has supported our college and its athletes so much through the years, that's what being a collegiate athlete is all about.”
