Men's Golf, Men's Tennis win ASC sportsmanship awards

RICHARDSON, Texas –– East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, LeTourneau University, Louisiana College, McMurry University, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mississippi College, Sul Ross State University and the University of Texas at Tyler are all winners of American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for 2011 spring sports, the conference office announced on Tuesday (May 17).

The award, in its fourth academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAACs) from the conference's 15 member institutions vote on the recipients.

Howard Payne (West Division) and LeTourneau (East Division) took the baseball sportsmanship honors, while Sul Ross State (West) and East Texas Baptist (East) took the awards in softball. Louisiana College (men) and McMurry (women) were the SAAC golf award winners. In tennis, Mary Hardin-Baylor (men's West), Louisiana College (men's East), Hardin-Simmons (women's West) and Mississippi College (women's East) were all honored. The Texas-Tyler men and MC women took the track and field sportsmanship honor.

The next SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be named after the fall 2011 season.
