MARSHALL, Texas - The LC softball team's season came to an abrupt end Saturday at the NCAA West Regional with a 4-1 loss to Linfield. The loss finishes LC season with a 38-9 record.
Linfield (39-5) broke open a scoreless game with three unearned runs in the fourth inning. Rochelle Friend began the inning by reaching on an error by LC shortstop Mary Alice Roy. After moving to second on a groundout, Friend scored on a single by Emilee Lepp. Lepp stole second and scored when LC pitcher McCaslin Carson threw wildly to first on a bunt by Emley Keagbine. Linfield's other run in the third came on an RBI single by Natalie Taylor.
They tacked on a run in the fifth inning when they opened the inning with three consecutive singles.
LC scored a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Aimee Dubroc, who finished three-for-three. In the seventh, LC brought the tying run to the plate with runners at second and third with two outs, but Ashleigh Clement grounded out to third to end the threat and the game.
Linfield pitcher Kendra Strahm (12-1) picked up the win as she allowed one unearned run on eight hits in a complete game effort. Carson (15-4) was tagged with the loss as she allowed four runs, one earned, in five innings of work.
