LaVerne jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. The homer marked the first one that LC starting pitcher Rene' Schwartzenburg had allowed all season. After that Schwartzenburg settled down and pitched through the fourth inning. During that time, LC tied the score at two.
LC's first run came courtesy to a bases loaded walk by Caitlin Bankston in the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Cats tied the score at two in the bottom of the third when LaVerne committed an error that allowed Ashleigh Clement to score from third base. In the fourth, LC took their first lead at 3-2 when Mary Alice Roy hit an RBI single.
LaVerne (29-16) tied the game at three, off LC reliever Kelly Williams, in the top of the sixth. The Leopards third run came via an RBI double. That's the way things would stay until Thomas' walk-off RBI single lifted LC (37-7) to the win.
McCaslin Carson (15-3) picked up the win by throwing three stellar relief innings. Carson struck out seven and allowed only two hits over the last three innings.
