IRVING, Texas - Friday afternoon, the eleventh ranked LC softball team advanced to the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a 3-0 win over ASC West champion, Hardin-Simmons.  With the win, LC (34-6) advances to face sixteenth ranked Texas-Tyler in the winner's bracket final today (5/1/09) at 5 p.m.  Click here for live stats and live audio of the LC/UT-Tyler game.

LC pitcher Rene' Schwartzenburg (12-0) tossed a four-hit shutout. with seven strikeouts and no walks.  Offensively, the Lady Cats scored two runs in the top of the fifth and one run in the top of the seventh.  LC's runs in the top of the fifth came courtesy of an RBI groudout from Mary Alice Roy and an RBI single by Ashleigh Clement.  LC's run in the top of the seventh came courtesy of a double steal in which Caitlin Bankston stole home while Roy stole second.

LC and Tyler (33-7) will face each other for the fifth time this season.  Tyler has taken three of the four games.  Tyler advanced courtesy of a 1-0 win over ASC East champion, East Texas Baptist.  The winner of the Tyler/LC game will advance to the ASC Tournament Championship game, which will be played at 2 p.m. tomorrow. The loser of the game drops to the loser's bracket and must win a game at 11 a.m. tomorrow to earn the right to advance to the championship game.
