ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana College fall invitational Golf Tournament kicked off Monday morning and the University of Texas-Tyler was the talk of the course.
With the top two spots occupied by UT-Tyler golfers, Brandon Ellis and Joey Rippel, the American Southwest Conference team held a two-stroke advantage over Texarkana College, 290-292, after day 1.
Mississippi College, the third-place team, is in striking distance of the lead as well with a combined 295.
LC currently sits in fifth with a 330 team total.
In the individual competition, Ellis had the best round shooting a 69 on the par-72 course.
Rippel sits in second with a 70, Texarkana’s CJ Clem is in third with a 71, with a three-way tie for fourth among Texarkana’s Wehmeyer Ferreira, Misssissippi College’s Jack Gordy and Texas-Tyler’s Jean Paul Aube, all of whom shot first-round 72’s.
LC’s top golfers were Chas Cranford and Elliott West, both of whom shot first-round 80’s and sit tied for 20th.
The tournament, being held at OakWing Golf Course, concludes Tuesday.
