Men's and Women's soccer notch first wins of season

ABILENE, Texas— Coach Craig Harwell had to know that teams that play with as much character as the LC men's and women's soccer teams were destined to crack the win column and Saturday afternoon, both the Wildcats and Lady Cats did just that against McMurry.

The women, who had lost a series of close heartbreakers, scored their first goal of the second and held on for a 1-0 win while the men struck paydirt three times and registered a 3-1 victory.

The doubleheader began with the women's game which remained scoreless until early in the second half when Martha Means' shot was tipped by McMurry goalie Bianca Van Osdol and found the net.

Louisiana College goalie Emily Breaux saved five shots to turn away McMurry's chances to score.
In the men's game, the Wildcats scored two late goals pull away from McMurry.

Felipe' Escobedo recorded two goals and an assist on the final goal, which was scored by Doug Jackson.

McMurry's lone goal came in the 58th minute when Michael Laffey's foul kick from thirty yards out found the back of the net. Laffey also recorded four shots with two on goal.

Escobedo's first goal came in the 38th minute of the contest, his second in the 75th minute.
The Wildcats then finished off McMurry in the 87th minute when Jackson received a cross from Escobedo.

LC goalie Joe Saverino recorded seven saves in the victory.

Both the men and the women return to action Thursday night with home contests against Howard Payne.
